Ina Garten shared a rare peek of her New York City apartment: Here’s everything we spotted, starting at just $9

Posted on September 18, 2026 by jasabacklink

Any Ina Garten fan is familiar with the Barefoot Contessa’s enviable East Hampton kitchens (yes, plural). There’s the charming home kitchen she first started shooting her popular Food Network series in, as well as the barn, a lofty studio that she currently uses for recipe testing and filming. But have you gotten a glimpse of her third kitchen?

That’s right; Ina also has a New York City apartment she calls home, and until recently, peeks inside the Manhattan dwelling were rare. With the arrival of her new video podcast, Happy Hour with Ina Garten, we’re finally getting a look at the Barefoot Contessa’s Big Apple abode, which is where the series takes place. (And, as a shock to no one, it’s impeccably styled.)

In true Ina fashion, the apartment is equal parts cozy and chic, with a subtle elegance that feels surprisingly attainable. I did some sleuthing to identify some of the items I spied, and also dug up some lookalikes starting at just $9. Affordable decor à la Ina? In the words of the Barefoot Contessa herself, “How bad can that be?”

One of my favorite details in Ina’s apartment is the array of still-life paintings of fruit hanging on her kitchen wall. They’re bordered by gold frames, which enhance the warmth they add to the room. Even if fruit-centric art isn’t your cup of tea, you can’t go wrong with classic gold frames — and this one looks expensive without breaking the bank.

If you ask me, lighting is everything when it comes to creating atmosphere. Ina relies on wall-mounted lights placed above large paintings to give rooms dimension and a soft, inviting glow. It’s a simple design choice that makes a big impact, and this one is conveniently wireless, so you won’t have any cords hanging down. It comes with a remote, which you can use to switch between warm, natural and cool light tones, as well as five brightness levels.

In both her Hamptons home and her New York City apartment, Ina displays her gorgeous flowers in no-frills cylindrical vases that allow the blooms to shine. “Choose one flower and use lots of them!” she says. “And one more thing — instead of finding lots of matching vases for my flowers, I just use water glasses! Simple and elegant — my favorite combination.” (That’s why we love her.)

Here’s another shared element from Ina’s Hamptons and Manhattan homes — woven jute area rugs. I spotted one in her apartment’s dining room, and according to interior designers, it’s a smart choice. “They are a simple way to add texture and warmth to a space,” says Michelle Gage, founder and creative director of Michelle Gage Interiors in Philadelphia, PA. “They’re an easy option, given that this neutral layer can work in any space.”

“Jute rugs have a natural look that works really well with different aesthetics, but especially cottage and country style, which are trending right now,” adds our design expert, Senior Home Editor Jessica Dodell-Feder. “Also, this might be a controversial statement, but I am hearing from kitchen manufacturers that people still love the farmhouse look, and jute rugs go hand-in-hand with that.” If it’s good enough for Ina, it’s good enough for me!

The best home items are practical and aesthetically pleasing — and this countertop crock fits the bill. Ina has several ceramic utensil holders in her kitchen, often in neutral cream and beige hues. The subtly stylish vessels will keep your most-reached-for tools neatly contained and close by while you cook, freeing up space in your silverware drawer.

In addition to her gorgeous collection of copper pots (which often cost big bucks), Ina has an assortment of stainless steel pans on display. She’s a longtime fan of All-Clad cookware (also pricey), but you don’t need to spend a lot of money for solid stainless steel pans. This affordable pair made it to our list of the best stainless steel skillets, as tested by a culinary expert.

“It’s the deepest skillet I tested,” said our reviewer. “When I seared skin-on chicken thighs, I was pleased with the browning, and when I transferred them to the oven, they finished cooking perfectly. The onions I sautéed came out evenly and didn’t show signs of hot spots. … At under $50 for a set of two pans, one 10-inch and one 8-inch, this is an absolute steal.”

I was inspired to purchase one of these (admittedly expensive) cutting boards after learning that Ina lines her counters with them — and sure enough, I spotted some in her New York City kitchen. “Butcher blocks … they’re really important,” she says in a New York Times video about her kitchen essentials. “I have lots of them, and if you take care of them, they last forever.” While I can’t attest to that, I will say that it’s the sturdiest cutting board I’ve ever used, and I appreciate that it won’t infuse my food with microplastics. Plus, it’s attractive enough that I leave it out on my counter at all times, just like Ina.

Some kitchen staples are classics for a reason. Take Pyrex, for example: Your grandparents might have had the brand’s mixing bowls or casserole dishes, and if they owned a liquid measuring cup, chances are it was from Pyrex. In a promo for her podcast, Ina can be seen using one to measure cocktail ingredients; if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! Speaking of which, I’ve been using these measuring cups for eons, and the strong glass is durable enough for those with butterfingers (like moi). Plus, at just $14 for this one- and two-cup duo, the price can’t be beat.

Ina’s love of quiet refinement extends to her appliances. Instead of opting for one of KitchenAid’s dozens of vibrant hues, she prefers a classic white stand mixer, which she displays on her counter. On her website, she specifies that she owns the 4.5-quart model, so if you’re looking to take your baking to the next level (while giving your arms a break from creaming butter and sugar together), this best-in-class mixer is Barefoot Contessa-approved.

Storage

I think it’s safe to assume that there isn’t an ounce of clutter in any of Ina’s spotless homes; that said, even the Barefoot Contessa relies on storage solutions to keep items without dedicated spaces concealed. I’m pretty proud of myself for tracking these baskets down; if the “Tall Handled” version isn’t the exact one that can be seen in her Manhattan living room, it’s a dead ringer! That one will set you back a steep $179, but smaller storage baskets from this breezy collection start at just $20.

New York City apartments are notoriously lacking in the spaciousness department, and Ina’s Manhattan kitchen might not be an exception. Above her range is a rack from which pots and pans hang — a trick often used by those with limited cabinet space. Of course, it also makes the kitchen look like it’s owned by someone who, you know, actually cooks, so dinner party guests know they’re in good hands. This highly rated unit can hold up to 88 pounds, has a storage shelf in addition to hooks and comes with screws, anchors and a wrench for easy installation.

Even a domestic diva like Ina needs a place to keep shoes so they’re out of the way. I was surprised to see that instead of some fancy walk-in hallway closet, she seems to house her shoes under a sleek entryway bench that strongly resembles this one (and likely costs five times as much). The slatted wood top and angled legs give it a contemporary, minimalist look, and seeing as it’s made of solid wood and iron, the $220 price tag is actually quite reasonable.

When Ina does opt for a pop of color, it’s often this warm hue. “You can tell it’s me because I love orange,” she says, referring to a pair of orange velvet armchairs in her living room during an apartment tour. “I love to entertain here … I love when everybody just sinks into a good chair.” Attractive orange chairs aren’t exactly easy to come by, but reviewers say this stylish seat is just as pretty as it is comfortable.

“Beautiful and comfy!” raved a pleased purchaser. “Love the look and quality. Perfect size, as it’s not obtrusive but still big enough to sit back and relax a while.”
